    Shocker HD Air Hitch Ball Mount Installation Instructions

    The Shocker HD Air Hitch ball mount is easy to install.  It comes complete with easy-to-understand instructions along with everything you need.  You can download the installation instructions or view the video below.

    Shocker Air Installation: First you must compress the air bag. Do this by depressing the air valve and pushing down on air bag.
    Once the bag has been compressed, you can install the unit into the receiver tube. Next install hitch pin.

    Shocker HD Air Hitch Install Video

    To Set Air: Hook up trailer using properly selected ball adaptor and height adjustment in order to a level trailer when loaded. Next, inflate the air bag. As air pressure increases, the unit will rotate lifting the hitch point. Install enough air to slightly compress top bushing or until bump stop clearance is approximately 1/8″.

    Additional Set Up Notes:

    • When towing heavy trailers or trailers with high wind resistance it may be necessary to increase air pressure in the Shocker.
    • Spacer block included and may be required when using 2″ shank (see install manual below)
    • It is highly recommended that the hitch ball be greased to reduce wear and improve shocker action.
    • DO NOT TIGHTEN THE TOP BOLT, IT IS A LIMITER STOP ONLY.

    Maximum Air Pressure: Do not exceed 100 psi in the air bag, as it may damage the air bag.

      A The cushion draw bar would be used for 4 wheel trailers with no tongue weight, for example, anhydrous tanks, bale wagons etc. they are not designed for tongue weight.

      Our Shocker Hitch frames are too tall for the step section of the multi-pro tailgate and will make contact.

      We have not had any issues with safety chains being compatible with our hitches at all. Sometimes the safety chains can come a little close to the airbag but it would not affect the hitch at all.

      With the trailer that you are towing, you are able to use either our 12k air hitch or our HD 20k. Both of them are offered with a combo ball mount that offers 1/2" to 4-1/2" of drop. Most people like going with the HD due to the versatility of being able to use it on light trailers as well by using less air. So either hitch will work great for you its just a matter of what capacity you would like to go with.

      A Hello, With the Rock Tamer style that slide on the shank of the hitch can cause binding as it can get pinched between the air bag and bottom of the receiver.       The only difference between our Max Black HD Air and The Red HD Air hitch is going to be the color. We use an impact-resistant textured black powder coat on our Max Black hitch that costs a little more than the red finish. Some of our older Shocker HD (red) frames did have 7 holes. However, all of our HD frames now have 8 adjustment holes to allow for more height adjustment. 
      A The difference between the Shocker HD and Max Black is the Shocker HD has a standard red powder coating and the Max Black has an abrasion resistant black coating. Also the HD and Max Black all have 8 holes in the base frame.
