The Shocker Hitch story
A rough ride sparked a better idea.
A lifetime of racing and towing inspired the original idea.
1990 · The first solution
Founder Bob Sagen spent years racing and towing trailers. When his stiff-suspension truck contributed to cracked trailer-tongue welds, he built a hitch with a coil spring, a pivot and a hitch ball. The trailer rode better—and an idea took shape.
2000 · Back on the road
After selling ProChassis and starting Travel-Lite, Bob was delivering trailers again. He returned to that original idea, testing and improving it over the next three years. An air bag made the cushioning adjustable for different loads. Shocker Hitch was born.
2021 · The next chapter
Scott Bintz purchased Shocker Hitch, building on Bob’s work with a growing team and a goal: bring smoother towing to more types of trucks and trailers.

Today the Shocker Hitch lineup includes Gooseneck Surge® air hitches, Quick Air® fifth-wheel solutions, air receiver hitches, the Air Equalizer and more.
Shocker Hitch’s manufacturing capabilities have grown with the products—from robotic welding and laser cutting to bead blasting and powder coating.

Scott Bintz brings a background in truck accessories, ecommerce and building strong teams to Shocker Hitch. Since purchasing the company in 2021, he has focused on expanding its towing solutions and manufacturing capabilities in Jamestown, North Dakota.
His entrepreneurial story began with RealTruck.com, founded in the basement of a duplex in 1998. Scott and his team grew it into a business with more than $100 million in sales before he sold it in 2015.
That experience shaped his belief that company culture, customer service and practical problem-solving belong together. He shares lessons from the journey in Principles to Fortune, and has also taught digital marketing at the University of Jamestown.
At Shocker Hitch, the focus is on the people behind the products—and the people towing with them.
